If you were to describe my teaching philosophy, you might say it is a blending of progressivism
and existentialism with a student-centered education as its foundation. I feel
that the role of a teacher is to not only ‘teach’, but to serve as an advisor to students, offering them guidance
in their studies as well as providing them with the basic foundations they need to become successful in their academic pursuits. Both as a student and now in studying to become a teacher, I find that I appreciate academic experiences that allow
for students to become deeply involved in their learning process. When a student
is given an opportunity to incorporate their academic interests into their curriculum, their achievement levels improve along
with their dedication and passion for learning. I also am passionate about providing
diverse learning opportunities to students in order to accommodate their various learning styles as well as putting emphasis
on practical applications of learning and authentic assessment. A progressive
classroom, if created with those ideals in mind, is the perfect atmosphere for all students to excel.
